A to Z That's Me

Come in to my life and see what keeps a housewife so busy.

Time with hubby

Have you gotten to the point in your relationship or marriage that you can't think of things to do with your partner? After 21 years of marriage I can say that we often ask eachother, "what should we do this weekend"?  Most of the time the answer is "I dont know".

We still have two kids living at home and usually one or both of the other two are visiting on the weekend.  My husband works the mid day shift up till 11:00 pm and so the weekdays and nights are out for us.  Oh sure there is always going out for dinner and or a movie but who can afford that every weekend?  My husband and I have gotten into this rut of watching tv in bed.  My daughter has told me that her husband won't allow them to put a tv in their bedroom. When she first told me that I thought, how boring then would it be to go to your room to relax without tv? Hah! They are still newly weds lol.   I am always trying to think of things the hubby and I can do to together.

Park

No not that kind of Park!  Although when we were first together we did that.  The kind where you go and have lunch under the trees and sit and listen to the birds.  We have gone a few times but always end up taking the boys or the grandbaby.  Just can't seem to associate the park without kids.  Even if we did go, what would we do there? Sit under the trees and listen to the birds?  Oh that would last all but 20 minutes.  There is only a short time here in southern AZ to go to the park and that time would be right now. During the early spring.  It's reaching 82 degrees at the warmest part of the afternoon.  We do like to go to the 'Park and Swap' however we always seem to spend money there. Of course that's what it's for and we do like going.  But it's not really that "alone time".  That time you see on tv when they are advertising for soft love music and you see a man and a woman walking on the beach after dusk and her skirt's blowing gently from the breeze of the waves hiting the shore. He picks her up and gently swings her around and they are laughing and smiling.  Oh please! Give me a break!  I'm sure that may be reality for some but I think for most of us,  it's just a commercial.

The Drive In

How romantic is that? We have been to the Drive In a few times. But when we go, we go to watch the movie.  Remember the movie Grease or the show Happy Days? Remember when they went to the Drive In?  No one ever watched the movie. Well the girls pretended to watch. My parents always went to the Drive In.  For all I know I could have been concieved in the back seat of my dad's Mustang. That would have been for all you kiddies born in the late 60's.  My husband and I tried to go to the Drive In one time to NOT WATCH the movie,  I was worried I wouldn't get to see any of the movie and people would see us.  Don't know why I was so worried, during the previews everyone was getting popcorn and soda and our minivan had really good shocks.

A Hotel

A hotel is a great place to go for some alone time.  I remember this one time back in "band camp", no just kidding.  This one time  I believe it was for our 13th wedding anniversary, my daughter and brother had gotten us a hotel package for one night.  I thought it was great.  Finally some time where the hubby and I could be alone without the kids and the pets and the phone.  Ha! We were bored silly all night.  Oh sure we had our little bit of fun but seriously folks unless you have only been married for a few months and still have a wild streak in ya, a night in the hotel is no different than a night in my bedroom with the bedroom door locked.  I spent the night worrying about the kids, I even called home a couple times. Don't forget folks that I had already had 4 kids by that time, hubby had already had his accident and we were just two tired adults that were usually sleeping by 10 pm.

Camping

Camping! NO way, not me.  I have an issue about creepy crawlies.  The question has come up, "well what if you had an RV to go camping in?"  Well I suppose as long as I didn't have to go hiking through the mountains or hear the coyotes howling all night, perhaps.  We would have to take several cans of bug spray as well and a tv with dvd player.  Now my daughter and her husband go camping all the time.  It's one of their most fun things to do.  They actually sleep in tents, can you believe that? But I guess that's what young people do. My daughter is always trying to convince me that camping is so much fun and that I should really give it a try.  Then you know what she does?  She comes back from a camping trip describing all the dead animals they have come across, all the bugs, bats, animals prowling around, sounds, people with hunting guns, etc etc.....You have got to be crazy I think to myself.  And you want me to give it a try I say to her. Please!!!

Our Doctor Visit

Hubby and I have the same doctor.  As a matter of fact, the entire family has the same doctor. He is a great doctor.  I call him Doc Rodd.

One day hubby and I both had an appointment for bloodwork.  On the way to the doctor's office, hubby was saying he had hoped the doctor had forgotton about his annual prostate exam.  I told hubby I wouldn't say anything if it didn't come up.  After waiting a little while in the same room, hubby and I began to argue over something non-important of course but I still got steamed as tea.  When the doctor came in, we were still arguing.  The doc asked hubby what was going on?  Hubby said, "oh you know, she is just having one of her little moments."  I was so upset with hubby, I turned around and said, "oh by the way doc, don't forget he is due for his annual prostate exam"

He got his exam.  I still laugh when I think about that visit to the doctors.
