My husband and I married 21 years ago in Arizona. We originally come from Kingston NY. We loved it there but there was no work and there still isn't.
We moved back to Kingston in 1986 and then again returned to AZ in 1997. We have been here ever since. We have 4 children. Two adult girls and Two almost adult boys. We also have one 20 month old granddaughter. She is the greatest treasure we have ever had. Just when you think you have no one else to teach, to learn from or to bring you back to why you became a parent in the first place, a grandchild comes along and reminds you why it is so great to be a parent
.
I had all of my children approximatley two years apart so they are all close in age. Still not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing
. When the third child had come along, my husband was in a terrible accident at work. He fell thirty feet during a very cold day and landed on his feet on the snow covered concrete of the building they were erecting. Our new son was only 4 weeks old and found myself away from him while we were at the hospital for quite a long time. Between my husband's accident and being away from my newborn son, it was the hardest time of my life. The doctors said my husband would never walk again. One year of bed rest and wheelchairs and then crutches, and here he is today teaching computer networking at a local college. He has come a long way, we all have.
My two girls do not live with us anymore but we see them just about everyday. I babysit for my oldest daughter just about every weekday so I get lots of time with the baby. I have been babysitting her since she was 6 weeks old and I must say, there isn't a day that went by that I didn't enjoy it one way or another.
It has been quite challenging living with only two of the children at home. It has been about 5 months since my second daughter moved out and I still haven't figured out how to grocery shop for a small family. I still keep over spending and buying more food then we need. A lot of times food goes to waste. I will figure it out soon enough.
We also picked up a new member of the family, the baby's father aka "the son in law". His name happens to be the same as my husband's, my son's and my daughter's, his wife. Well she has the female name. There names are Steve and hers is Stephanie. She was named after her father. They share the same middle name as well. My son in law is great. He really is. I didn't think there would ever be anyone good enough for my little girl, my first born, but better than good enough was what we got. I'm thrilled that she has good taste and good sense.
Our second daughter is almost 20 and she works for Michaels Craft Supplies. I get a good discount there hehehe. She has a very nice boyfriend whom her dad and I approve of.
Our two girls graduated high school and we are waiting for my third child, our son to graduate in 2009. He is 18 now and taught himself to play electric guitar in less then a year. He plans to have his own rock and roll band and we are very happy for him and support him. He is a smart kid.
Our youngest son still has two and a half years of high school left. He is gifted in Math and expressing himself
. He really is a good kid though. He is the only one of my kids that cleans when he gets bored. Not just picking up, but actual cleaning. One night I came out of my room pretty late and seen that he had cleaned out the refridgerator, just as good as I would have and to boot, he also cleaned out the cabinets. He said he was bored but I think we all know he just wanted extra money on his allowance that week. Smarty Pants
Other than that, we are a very happy family. We do plan on moving up north in the next couple years where there is seasons, snow, and pine trees. It will be well over due.
